The “In”

roof topsI’ve found my “in.”

Identifying a situation that is keen to be novelized is only the first step for a writer embarking on a new project. Just as important, and often much harder, is discovering the way into the situation without disturbing it.

Don’t blow up a wall to shove in your story. Be more clever. Find the unlocked door, the window left ajar. Shimmy down a chimney or up a drain pipe.

Bottom line: Be imaginative. That’s what they pay you for, after all.

Until tomorrow…
