stockvault-hand-print164822With a Cozy Mystery set in contemporary, rural Alabama is the author required to address the issue of racism?

Having lived in Alabama 30 years, I am very aware that racism is still grotesquely alive in some parts of the state. However, it is not responsible for every crime in the state.

So, when the murder in The Shallcross Burden has nothing whatsoever to do with skin color (although the fictional community is racially mixed) must I confront a racism that isn’t there? A racism that I despise with every morsel of my soul?

Should I be true to the story or true to society?

Until tomorrow…
