“Tight and Troped.”
That’s the neon sign flashing in my author’s window these days.
Tight… with words, sentence structure, and plot. No meandering paragraphs or overly luscious descriptions. No extraneous subplots to blunt the main storyline’s impact.
Troped… i.e. embrace the cliché. Tropes sell in the romance genre. In the past I’ve tried to buck them. This go-around, I’m crawling into bed and getting frisky with the hackneyed turn of tale.
Can I do this?
Yes.
Will it sell?
Let’s not ask the sticky questions yet.
Until tomorrow…
