The Dam Builders

I’m a dam builder.

That’s my problem.

Give me a stream to cross in my writing, I will not wade my characters across. Nope, it would be too expected to have them swim.

Prose in a boat?

Predictable.

Plot in a bridge?

Boring.

I’m Hoover Damming the thing.

Dramatic, daring… and (usually) damning to the whole story.

Bottom line: Let your characters get their feet wet. (Save the dam building for the beavers.)
